HST madness

My girlfriends and I started a quilting bee last year. I finished my quilt yesterday.

 

Here's mine in all its eye blinding glory.  It was supposed to have a licorice all sort theme, but that didn't really work. I think it turned out neat anyway.

 

I used a sarong my daughters got for me from Bali as the backing. It wasn't quite big enough

 so I added a strip of the feature fabric around the edges.

Bound with an orange dot, if you know me you'll know this is far out of my comfort zone.

 

I quilted it with a swirly motif running across the width of the quilt.

 

This cute little house print is my favourite.

 

Quilting bee blocks

I've signed up for a few quilting bees lately. I've decided to do practice blocks with Denyse Schmidt's Picnics & Fairgrounds. Some of these blocks are killers so trying it out with my fabric first is a wise idea.

This one is for Quilting climber

It's beautiful block, but it kicked my ass so many times. I became well acquainted with my unpicker.  The problem with mistakes in bee blocks is you only have a limited amount of fabric to work with, and once it's too small there's nothing you can do. I got there in the end and I'm very pleased with it.

And last but not least, a nice simple block. It specifies charm squares, but I just cut what I needed from yardage. 

I think my quilt made from all my practice blocks is going to be a cracker.

Rainbow Connection II

 

 Finished one rainbow zig-zag, I do love half-square triangles. It looks horribly wrinkly here. Sigh, must take better photos.

Anyway, it' for a friend who signed up for a craft swap on Facebook. You know who you are, tell me if you like it or, like your sister you'd prefer something else.

I pieced the back continuing with the rainbow theme, I think it looks fan-freaking-tastic. I like the way the zig-zag quilting echos the colours on the front, but it looks sweet on the back too.

 

 Here's a close up of the blue and green I've been working on, coming together slowly. My kids just got back from an overseas jaunt so I can't see it getting any quicker now. I'd like to have it all finished up for a trip to the Kimberly in early June. Fingers crossed.
